Being Kind Works
Kindness is the most powerful tool that we each have to work better, live better, and be better.
Kindness is more than ‘being nice’
Kindness is more than ‘being nice’
Kindness build stronger workplaces, communities, and cultures. And it is a tool that is available to EVERYONE.
We aren’t talking about ‘just be nice’ or surface-level Kindness.
We don’t mean constant people-pleasing. We are talking about authentic Kindness based on developing empathy, listening to others, practicing gratitude and recognition, giving generously, having sincere conversations, and connecting deeply with others and ourselves.
Kindness is not always grand gestures, but rather our small every-day actions compounding on one another.
Kindness often means a step outside of our comfort zone.
It might be connecting with a colleague in a new way. It might be having a difficult conversation with listening and empathy. It might be recognizing the work of a peer to their manager. When we intentionally practice Kindness in our daily routine, we strengthen our Kindness muscle.
Establishing and nurturing meaningful relationships
Being intentionally attentive & responsive to others’ input, and to our own feelings
Providing or sharing something (help, support, time, etc)
Feeling thankful for the good qualities in ourselves, others, our lives, and the world
Understanding and sharing the feelings and perspectives of others
Showing a desire to help based on empathy
Being free from pretense, deceit, and hypocrisy in all communication
Outward appreciation through praise or celebration.
And you can practice Kindness both towards others and towards yourself.
As humans, we systematically underestimate the positive impact that small actions will have, and we overestimate how awkward they might feel.*
We can change that pattern together by working to develop habits and cultures of Kindness that make us all better through the intentional practice of Kindness.
