Kindness is more than a nice-to-have—it’s a catalyst for connection, trust, and performance. When embedded into daily routines, it strengthens teams and fuels lasting cultural change. That’s exactly what the UNDP Colombia office set out to explore in 2023 through a partnership with KindWorks.AI. The impact was both immediate and meaningful.
Amid a period of internal transition, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Colombia turned to kindness and technology to help its team stay grounded and connected. The organization launched with KindWorks.AI to support employee well-being and reinforce its values during this time of change.
The goal was simple but powerful: to help team members feel more connected to one another—and to the mission that brought them to the organization in the first place. The core tool of this initiative was Beni, KindWorks’ AI-powered kindness agent. Seamlessly integrated into communication platforms like Teams, WhatsApp, and Slack, Beni encouraged small, intentional acts of kindness that could be practiced daily.
An Engaged Team That Shared Appreciation
From the very first week, engagement was strong—and it remained high throughout the program. Of the 71 employees who participated, 63% engaged weekly, and 82% stayed active each month. Over the course of the pilot, the team completed more than 800 acts of kindness—ranging from messages of appreciation to small gestures that lifted team morale.

But beyond the numbers, the true impact was deeply human. Employees reported feeling more purposeful in their day-to-day work, more connected to colleagues, and more energized in the face of organizational challenges. What began as a light digital touchpoint evolved into a meaningful cultural shift. As one participant shared, “Beni helps me get to know others at the office and see the human side of my colleagues.”
Kindness didn’t distract from UNDP’s mission—it deepened it. By investing in empathy and connection, the team strengthened not just individual well-being, but also the collective culture that enables high-impact work. One participant put it simply: “Connecting with colleagues and practicing kindness is key in our job—it creates friendships and trust.”
In fast-paced, purpose-driven environments, small shifts in emotional climate can create lasting ripple effects. For UNDP Colombia, this pilot proved that kindness isn’t just a feel-good initiative—it’s a strategic lever for engagement, resilience, and organizational health.
